How to avoid being locked out of your own hotel room

You're back in your hotel room after a day of intense exploration. You're tired and ready to slump into bed. But you can't find your hotel card! You search your pockets, your bag, your socks (you never know) but nothing, nada. And then the drama begins. You're stuck outside, sadly watching your dinner escape you. And why is that? All because you used this card to get a little light and maybe a little air-conditioning.

Well, I've got more than one solution for you!

To avoid this kind of inconvenience, simply don't use your hotel card to keep light and electricity in your room.

Here are some tips from my personal life:

The Decoy : Use an old loyalty card, transport card, out-of-date library card or even a Pokémon card if you have one to hand. Slide it into the slot and voilà! The light stays on, and you can get in and out of your room without worry.

Personally, this is my favorite technique. I also describe it in this video shorts from my Youtube channel:

The Doppelgänger : If you're the kind of person who loses cards the way I lose my socks in the washing machine, make sure you have a spare. Make friends with someone at the hotel counter and ask for a duplicate card. One card will be dedicated to the room's light and electricity, the other will be the means of returning to your haven of peace.

The Conviviality : If all else fails, don't be afraid to call the front desk for help. That's what hotel staff are there for, after all! They'll be delighted to help you sort out this little inconvenience and get you back on your feet. After all, it'll give you a great anecdote to tell, and you'll get to know the locals better.
