France : Marseille, hidden & chill places of the Phocaean city

Marseille may not always be the center of attention, but it's full of hidden treasures.

There are little-known corners of paradise where tranquility and relaxation reign.

Here are a few places to visit at least once when visiting Marseille !

1. Le Vallon des Auffes : Nestled between Corniche Kennedy and Plage des Catalans, Vallon des Auffes is a picturesque fishing port far from the hustle and bustle of the city center. Sit on one of the rocks lining the water, listen to the lapping of the waves and watch the fishermen return from their day's work. A true haven of peace in the heart of the city.

You'll also have the chance to eat the best bouillabaisse I've ever tried, at Fonfon, with unlimited Bouillon.

A little bonus: above the Valon des Auffes, the monument dedicated to the natives has the following special feature: at sunset, the statue is held in both hands...

2. Valmer Park : For a green getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city, head for Parc Valmer. This little-known botanical park offers a breathtaking view of the Mediterranean and is home to a variety of Mediterranean plants. Grab a book, curl up on the grass and let the sea breeze lull you to sleep.

3. La Plage du Prophète (Prophet Beach): Looking for a quiet beach away from the summer crowds? Plage du Prophète is for you. Situated in the shade of the rocks of Corniche Kennedy, this little cove is perfect for relaxing in the sun, taking a siesta in the shade of the umbrella pines and diving into the crystal-clear waters of the Mediterranean.

4. Le Cours Julien : Known for its bohemian ambience and colorful alleyways, the Cours Julien is the ideal place to stroll and discover Marseille's street art. Stop off at one of the many cafés and bars in the area to sip a drink and listen to live music. A relaxed atmosphere guaranteed!

5. Le Pharo : Overlooking Marseille's Old Port, the Palais du Pharo offers a breathtaking view of the sea and the Frioul islands. Stroll through the palace gardens, admire the majestic architecture and soak up the history of this emblematic city landmark. You'll be able to recharge your batteries, even though you're close to the hustle and bustle of the city.

6. Cary Nation: Famous speakeasy located a stone's throw from the Bonne-Mère. Known for its warm, relaxed atmosphere, Carry Nation is a haven for cocktail and music lovers. Be careful, you'll have to find the entrance...

This bar takes its name from Carry Nation, an American Prohibition activist known for her spectacular actions of destroying bars with an axe.

Carry Nation offers a wide selection of original, carefully crafted cocktails. Whether you're a fan of timeless classics or looking for creations reminiscent of Marseille (special mention to the Zombie d'Endoume), you're bound to find what you're looking for among the cocktails and mocktails on offer or made to order.

As a speakeasy lover, this is my landmark when I'm in Marseille.
